iLASIK™ is a type of LASIK eye surgery that has been pioneered and perfected by AMO/VISX and Intralase technology. Despite the fact that traditional LASIK has helped millions of people see without the dependence on glasses or contact lenses LASIK was not a perfect procedure. Although many people that had traditional LASIK had no problems, ophthalmologists and engineers were eager to perfect this vision correction procedure. With over a decade of research and clinical results, LASIK Doctors and industry experts sought a more predictable solution. iLASIK now provides this solution. By combining CustomVue wavefront technology with VISX™ Star4 active tracking capability and a blade-free femtosecond laser for an ALL-laser LASIK, we can now achieve a more precise result. The technology used in the iLASIK procedure has been thoroughly tested and scrutinized by doctors who overwhelmingly claim the advantages in precision. It is clear now that iLASIK truly represents a technological combination in vision correction.

Because the iLASIK procedure has brought together a unique combination of technology that leads to safer more predictable results NASA has recently approved the Intralase Method. It was not until LASIK was developed into an ALL-LASER method using a femtosecond laser for the cutting of the corneal flap that NASA considered approving LASIK for the eyes of the United States Astronauts and space program candidates. The military and NASA together conducted extensive research of the Intralase Femtosecond laser.

The Advanced Technology of the iLASIK platform

  • VISX Star 4 Excimer Laser with IRIS registration
    • The VISX star4 excimer laser is one of the top excimer lasers with superior technology
  • CustomVue™wavefrom technology
    • Developed from Hubble telescope technology wavefront expands treatment zones and helps correct higher-order aberrations
  • Intralase Blade-Free laser
    • Creates the LASIK flap with a laser instead of blade resulting in a safer LASIK

iLASIK Facts

  • Approximately 17 million LASIK procedures have been performed to date, making it the most common elective vision procedure in the U.S. In fact, all branches of the U.S. military and NASA recently approved LASIK for their servicemen and women, thanks to studies using iLASIK technology.

iLASIK Candidacy

If you were not a candidate for LASIK eye surgery prior to iLASIK you could possibly now be a candidate. Given the wavefront technology and bladeless microkeratome technology additions to LASIK, the doors are now open for some previously unqualified candidates. If you were previously determined to be a LASIK candidate you will most likely also be a candidate for iLASIK. In order to determine candidacy for this procedure please consult with a qualified iLASIK surgeon in your area. There are some conditions that will still exclude certain patients from becoming a candidate, however, if you have nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism there is a solid chance that you will be an iLASIK candidate.

Steps to iLASIK

  1. Take LASIK Self-Evaluation Test
  2. Determine your candidacy with a qualified iLASIK doctor
  3. Discuss payment options or financing
  4. Schedule surgery and remove contacts for 10 days

New Information Regarding LASIK safety (AAO 2006)

There has been some new information that was reported at the AAO meeting 2006 in Las Vegas (American Academy of Ophthalmology) and at the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology 2007 meeting that LASIK lasts longer than expected. A study actually involved 200 eyes and determined that with both LASIK eye surgery and PRK both procedures maintained excellent long-term results. If you are interested in the longevity of LASIK eye surgery you can discuss this with your LASIK surgeon.

Choosing a Quality LASIK surgeon

We understand that selecting a LASIK surgeon in New York and getting started with LASIK research can be overwhelming. “NASA followed the Naval Aviation clinical studies of nearsighted patients closely with a particular interest in both safety and quality of vision under extreme conditions. Wavefront-guided and femtosecond lasers provided super safety with the majority of patients achieving 20/20 or better vision. The Navy studies demonstrated that advanced technology LASIK is stable and effective in even the most extreme physical conditions of warfare and high-performance flight. With that kind of rigorous testing and validation, the average consumer can choose LASIK with confidence.”

Why should patients choose iLASIK over other LASIK vision correction options?

If you are a patient considering LASIK you should definitely give the iLASIK platform a close look because the technological advantages are significant. If you want a safer method for flap creation and if you would like to possibly correct higher-order aberrations that traditional LASIK does not correct iLASIK is a great option. If you combine this technology with a surgeon like Dr. Ken Maodelyou may significantly improve the chances of achieving more accurate results. If you want a vision correction procedure that is customized just for your own eyes iLASIK is the procedure to select. Remember it’s your eyes, your life, and ultimately your decision.
